Enterprise Greece - NEWSLETTER July 2026

Greek Exports – Greek merchandise exports jumped sharply in May -
almost 21% compared with a year earlier – pointing to another strong
year for Greek exports despite global economic uncertainty. Total
exports for May rose 20.8% to €5.07 billion led by a 74% rise in exports
of petroleum products. Excluding oil, total exports were up 4.2% on year
in May. Significantly, the data for the first five months of the year show
the value of Greek exports accelerating, rising by 13.5% compared with
the same period in 2025, and up from a 11.3% growth rate in the period
January to April. Excluding petroleum products, exports of Greek food
products – one of the country’s signature export categories – are up
almost 10% in the first five months of the year.
Record FDI – Foreign direct investment in Greece jumped sharply last
year to reach an historic high of $12.86 billion in 2025, according to the
latest World Investment Report by the UN Conference on Trade and
Development (UNCTAD). The energy sector emerged as the leader in
new investments, while significant investments were also recorded in
the health sector, financial services, gaming, the food industry and
education.
Hospitality Investment – Greece was named as Europe’s preferred
investment destination in the hospitality sector, according to new
findings conducted by market intelligence company Questex. Based on
the results of two separate surveys, 43% of institutional investors rank

Greece as their top European market for hotel investments, ahead of
Italy, Spain and France. The survey also reveals that investors are
increasingly seeking professionally managed luxury assets, rather than
distressed or turnaround opportunities. The strong interest in Greek
hospitality reflects steadily growing visitor arrivals and a renewed focus
on Mediterranean destinations by investors.
Water Strategy – Τhe Greek government has unveiled the country’s first
National Water Strategy, part of a three-decade-long, multi-billion euro
program to better manage the country’s water resources. The new
strategy incorporates a series of recent and upcoming initiatives to
develop Greece’s water infrastructure. These include a €65 billion call
for proposals by September from municipalities facing water shortages,
and a further €50 billion call that is expected to be issued in September
for islands facing water scarcity.
